Isaiah 33:6 – He will be the sure foundation for your times, a rich store of salvation and wisdom and knowledge; the fear of the Lord is the key to this treasure.
What a wonderful promise from the Bible for the times we are living in today. In a time when every man-made institution that we’ve placed our trust in is crumbling and failing, God promises us that He will be our sure foundation. Notice that this verse says “He will be the sure foundation.” Not “a” sure foundation, but “the” sure foundation.
There is no other foundation to build your life on than the person of Jesus Christ. Jesus stated in Matthew 24:35 – Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will never pass away. Only He can promise us the stability and peace that our hearts long for, and He can give that in the worst of times.
The next part of Isaiah 33:6 states that He will be a rich store of salvation, wisdom, and knowledge. Salvation is when God does for you something you cannot do for yourself. Wisdom and knowledge will keep you out of a lot of crises and help navigate you through many treacherous waters. Between these three treasures, there is no situation in life that we can’t triumph over.
Notice, it says that God will be a “rich store” of these treasures. He is not a genie who gives us three wishes, and then we’re on our own, no Scripture teaches us that in Christ are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge (see Colossians 2:3). There is a rich store of God’s salvation for when we are helpless to fix life ourselves, His wisdom for when we don’t know the way to go, and His knowledge for the answers to the questions that we desperately need.
What is the key to this treasure? The fear of the Lord! This is a concept that has long been lost in our nation and culture. To fear the Lord is to realize that ultimately and eternally we are accountable to God. To fear the Lord is to realize that if we must choose between pleasing man or pleasing God, we chose to please God.
How do we learn the fear of God which is the key to stability in the day in which we are living? Ask Him to teach you! (Psalms 86:11) Teach me your way, O LORD, and I will walk in your truth; give me an undivided heart, that I may fear your name.
Turn to the God who created you and sent His Son to save you. He longs to be the stability and foundation for your times!
